What’s New

To all my loyal clients,

After having worked this business for over twenty years the time has come for me pass on IE Webs and retire to a nice warm and sunny place. I am so tired of being cold. And I know it is time since the Excel spreadsheet workbook we use no can longer add anymore columns, it is full up. So when my hubby retires (early 2019) he and I will be relocating to Costa Rica!.

It was great getting to know each of you even though it was mostly through phone calls. Though I did get to meet a few of you in person over the years. I so do appreciate each and every one of you and I am happy to say I will think of you often.

I’ve offered IE Webs to my daughter Karen but she wasn’t interested. And with all uproar over net neutrality and taxes and such I don’t think anyone else but Kirk could deal with it nor want to. There is nothing you need do unless you want to move your site then I would do that before the end of 2018. Kirk will be taking over at start of 2019 and will set up billing as he wants.

I wish you all well in your future endeavors. I’m thinking maybe coffee growing for myself and fishing for Frank. Thank you all

Pura Vida

Phishing attacks against registrars

You may have heard that many high-profile domain registrars are being targeted by a massive phishing attack against domain owners.

There have been reports that some of those attacks are using Tucows branded emails to target some  resellers and possibly end users all over the world. The fraudulent emails claim that a particular domain name has been suspended and ask users to click a link. domainabuse@tucows.com.org, domainabuse@tucows.com.info,legal@tucows.com.em and domainabuse@tucows.com.net are being used as “From” and “Reply-to” addresses.

We are asking all our client to be extra vigilant of these fraudulent suspension notices. In case you have received an email from tucows.com.org,tucows.com.info, tucows.com.em and tucows.com.net:

Please:

– Do not click any links
– Do not reply to the email
– Do not call any phone numbers listed within the email

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone or email, though email is preferred so there is a record of anything that may be fraudulent.

Yes we are aware of the recent email sending issues. Here is an update from Kirk on this,

“Basically, we are getting inundated with spam. And one problem that has occured as a result, is that Yahoo is temporarily blocking our server because the number of
messages that are getting passed to Yahoo because of forwarding. For
example, when a customer gets 1000 spams in the inbox, and they have
forwarding turned on, then the server forwards those 1000 messages
through Yahoo’s server. So Yahoo says that it appears that too many
messages are coming to their server from ours. So they block for 48
hours. Even though we are not the source of the spam, it is sorta
“relaying” through ours …. just because it is getting forwarded to
somebody’s yahoo account.

And since Yahoo has us on a block, it makes our server put the message
into a deferred state. And when there are literally 20,000 messages in
the deferred queue, it puts HUGE load on the server .”

He is still working to fix this issue so please be patient with us while this is underway.

Sheesh. . .  spammers.

Migration of websites to the new system are coming along nicely. There have of course been a few bugs as with any new piece of software but we are working them out. What with the new billing system and control panel to use there haven’t been too many terrible issues with it. We are working to have all sites moved within the next few months. So that by the end of this year all will relocated and working well in the new location. I can then put to rest the old Windows servers that have served me well for these past dozen years or so.

I’m pleased to say that using WordPress for my website has been very helpful though there is a learning curve. I’m sure every one of you who currently are using FrontPage for editing would love it as much as I do. There are many themes and widgets and plugins just for WordPress. I found a great deal of help here http://wordpress.org/.

So for any of you with questions about please check the wordpress site for more information.
